Stroh Juchhee - "Batman" wins!

Stroh Juchhee, the world’s craziest horn sled race, had a new venue this year, namely the Wiesenalm – and it proved to be a huge success right from the start with spectator numbers surpassing even those of previous years’ crowds.
The Stroh Juchhee event had the area around the Wiesenalm cable-car literally seething. Over 8,000 guests, 3,000 of whom were on foot, flocked from Zell to the Zillertal Arena on Sunday to marvel at the creative ideas and theatrical clownery of the 15 competing teams.
The “Kober Team” successfully defended their title, winning the coveted Stroh Juchhee trophy for the second year running with their interpretation of Batman complete with Batmobile and a wild chase with the Joker. Second place was awarded to the Zillertal Truck made by the Ried-Kaltenbach Landjugend (Rural Youth Association), and the men of the “Neuhauser Mander” won third place for their version of the Four Hills Ski Jumping Tournament, accompanied by some impressive jumps à la Wolfgang Loitzl & Co.
And of course, there was a lot of celebrating and partying going on too! The Gasthof Wiesenalm team, along with the Rohrberg Bäuerinnen and Jungbauern (Country Women’s and Young Farmers’Associations), did a splendid job of catering for the culinary needs of all the spectators. And fans of the folk music band “Die Zillertaler Haderlumpen”, many of whom had come specially, weren’t disappointed either – the band played well into the evening wrapping up Stroh Juchhee 2009 on a high note.
