PEAK TO CREEK CONQUERS THE ÖTZTAL

INTERNATIONAL TOP ATHLETES COMPETE IN AUSTRIAN EXTREME RELAY RACE
When the world’s best athletes compete against each other during the spectacular Peak to Creek race in the Austrian Ötztal at the end of April, there’s only going to be one motto: the only way is down – and as fast as possible!

In this one-of-a-kind extreme relay race, 24 international top athletes from eight different disciplines will go from winter to summer, from snow to water and from mountain to valley – all in the Austrian Ötztal region from April 28 to May 1, 2012. On a course covering 7,067 vertical meters from the summit of the Rettenbach Gletscher called “Schwarze Schneide” all the way down to the wild waters of the “Ötztaler Ache”, they are going to compete in different disciplines – with skis, bikes, paragliders, kayaks and a hefty dose of adrenaline. The athletes are going to maneuver the 85km route peppered with challenging climbs through one of Europe’s most breathtaking landscapes!

In total, three teams, consisting of eight athletes each, will be facing the challenge of a lifetime. Every one of them needs an outstanding level of fitness and extraordinary mental strength to complete his leg of the race. While the skiers start with their race from the “Schwarze Schneide” down to the toll gate of the Ötztal glacier road, the mountain bikers have to master an obstacle course before the mountain freerunners tackle a demanding parkour course including a narrow natural bridge leading them across the dizzying heights of Tyrol’s highest waterfall, the “Stuibenfall”.

Next up are the climbers on the “Engelswand” and the road cyclists on their highly technical downhill stretch to Ötz and steep 18% climb up the “Haiminger Sattel”. Leg number 6 belongs to the ski mountaineers, who have to make their way from 1,546m to 2,447m as fast as possible, while the paragliders take off at the “Bielefelder Hütte” in leg 7. In the final legs, the kayakers take to the waters of the “Ötztaler Ache” before the entire team goes for the final spurt to victory in the rafting race.

As the longest side-valley of the river Inn, the Ötztal serves as a fantastic backdrop for this unique multisport event. As a sports and leisure paradise, the Ötztal is not just famous for its perfect freesports opportunities but also for its beautiful landmarks including the 3,774m high “Wildspitze” and the “Ötztaler Ache” river.

During the event weekend from April 28 to May 1, 2012 visitors at the Area 47 will not only be treated to an action-packed sporting event, but can also enjoy a varied entertainment program. Interesting speeches, exclusive movie premieres and fantastic parties make Peak to Creek an outdoor adventure not to be missed!
